Road to peace "BLOCKED" by 10 Lakh indian troops:Syed Ali Shah Geelani

Chairman Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Shah Geelani Saturday took a dig at New Delhi based think tanks for organizing seminars in Kashmir while ignoring their “real” role of apprising people outside about “miseries and sufferings of Kashmiris.” Geelani was speaking at a public meet— Kashmir: Road To Peace— organized by journalist Seema Mustafa-led Centre for Peace and Analysis(CPA).

“These think tanks should have been apprising people outside Kashmir about the ground situation in Kashmir, the sufferings of people here, but instead they organize seminars in Kashmir, where people already know what is happening,” he said.

Asserting that India’s “stubbornness” was the main hurdle to resolution of Kashmir, Geelani said the “road to peace (apparently, a pun at the title of the public meet) has been blocked by the million-strong Indian armed forces in Kashmir.”

Geelani also lashed out at Indian Home Minister P Chidambaram for praising Omar Abdullah for “putting thousands of pro-freedom youth and leaders in jails.”

The Hurriyat leader accused New Delhi of using “cultural aggression” as a tool to strengthen its “military occupation of Kashmir.”

Besides Geelani, Democratic Freedom Party leader Moulana Abdullah Tari, Chairman National Front, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Senior Vice Chairman JKLF (R) Javiaid Ahmad Mir along with Minister for Agriculture Ghulam Hassan Mir, Independent MLA from Langate, Enigineer Rasheed and Pradesh Congress vice president, Muzaffar Parray also spoke on the occassion.

Independent MLA from langate , Engineer Rashid said that Kashmir was not an integral part or jugular vein of any country but a disputed territory.

Rashid asked New Delhi to take note of human rights violations in Kashmir.

Minister for agriculture, Ghulam Hassan Mir stressed that there was a need for a “consolidated voice to raise the Kashmir issue, warning that if Kashmiris “remain divided, no individual contribution can help us.”
