Achievability Factor While Deciding Merger with Pakistan In comparison to Independent State

Limitations of Indigenous Struggle Achievability Factor While Deciding For J&K’s Accession or Independence A Rational Analysis An Open Invitation for Discussion to All Advocates of Independent Kashmir

Indigenous (Kashmir-only) effort on our part cannot yield us desired results, for the fact that it has some serious flaws and understanding those flaws is a must. This suggestion should not be taken in a pessimistic way or as a discouraging discourse, but in the light of facts and validity of our argument. This discussion should be scholarly in nature, than ugly and uncivilized. Further, it is not intended to create mistrust and undue grudge against each other, but to cultivate a healthy society patient enough to look for pros and cons of the decisions we make.

I have firm belief that we are a capable lot and we can produce global leaders. We are hard working, talented, sincere and highly motivated for accomplishing the mission we have undertaken. However, ignoring ground realties, underestimating opponent, negating dynamic nature of current geo-political scenario and exaggerating one’s own strength and thus efforts are detrimental, if ignored in deciding the methodology of our struggle.

Ground realities
a) India is a mighty country and its exhaustion, weakness or fatigue is unexpected, at least in near future.
b) Armed struggle cannot fetch us territorial gains, but at the most, it will bring India on to the negotiating table. However, armed struggle in Kashmir has faded, and even if revived, it will be bloody and won’t help much.
c) Public protests, even of the order of 1990’s and 2008 -10’s could not yield results. In future, anything less or equal to that won’t shake India. India, to some extent, has become immune to such periodic mass movements.
d) Pakistan’s current situation is such that its current government cannot pressurize India.
e) India has strong business ties with world powers and even with leading Muslim countries.
f) India is growing and becoming more and more influential.

Deduction-1: India is a mighty influential nation and exerting pressure on it needs more than what we as Kashmiri’s have or could have done.

UN’s dubious role & futility of our protests
a) UN in past has failed to protect Muslim interests in Afghanistan, Iraq, Palestine, Pakistan, Chechnya, Iran & Kashmir. But it didn’t fail in creating and protecting Israel, liberating East Timor, in invasion against Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan. While developing our course of action should we, or should we not consider this trend in UN deliverance policy.
b) Our public protests are not incurring any direct loss on to India. These protests are aimed to win world sympathy and pressurize India through UN or US. In this scenario considering our struggle against mighty India as indigenously adequate is nothing but imprudence. Our struggle is highly dependent on external support that our protests may or may not yield. However, at the outset, external influential and potential helpers like US and UN, being innately indisposed towards Muslim causes, render our protests futile.
c) Inverse analysis however, brings forth that Global extremism has risen and entire world is scared of Muslims. Today, world will not easily let any Muslim region succeed and permit emergence of an exemplary Muslim state. West wants moderate, secular, liberal, democratic and westernized disposition in Muslims. Muslims on the contrary have always tried to resist any sort of alien influence. This cold war is on an increasing trend. Without classifying this trend as positive or negative, we must acknowledge, that it is there acting as a hindrance, to put across the demand for an independent Kashmir, which obviously will be Muslim majority state.

Deduction-2: It is very much unlikely that UN, US, EU or West will come to our rescue; neither can we double-cross them by pretending to be altogether secular.

Indian stand point and thus our hurdles
India cannot act generously in resolving Kashmir for its own good reasons;
a) Setting Kashmir free dangers total disintegration of India.
b) It can encourage insurgencies in north-east, south and Punjab.
c) It can cause rise in Hindu fundamentalism and can trigger nationwide riots.
d) It can be harmful for 200 million Indian Muslims.
e) It can destroy its so called secular fabric.
f) It can aggravate Naxal problem.

Deduction-3:While exercising choice between “loss” and “big loss”, surely “loss” is opted for. The day India perceives Kashmir as a loss to avert big loss, it will leave us. But what circumstances, how and who will drag India to choose between “loss and “big loss” is the subject that needs to be assessed.

Our drawbacks
a) India has well developed and fully functional pro-Indian lobby in Kashmir.
b) India exploits our bread and butter issues to stay with them.
c) We can’t help stop people participating in elections and pro-India activities.
d) India lures and attracts our youth to rich and progressing Indian markets.
e) Indian developmental schemes are temptation that most of us fail to resist.
f) Our indigenous efforts against mighty India suffer from fatigue and exhaustion.

Deduction-4:We require somebody sincere to hold front on our part, as long as we are silent, dormant or in hiatus. We need somebody, who can from outside scrutinize our struggle, while being comparatively pressure and influence free?

Assumptions
Let us assume that we have succeeded in bringing India on to the negotiating table. I repeat, this is an assumption (a huge one) that India agrees to negotiate over the demand of Azadi. This assumption requires another assumption that in spite of advocating Azadi, we will be friendly with Pakistan. While bargaining it is likely that;

a) Much of the Jammu province will go to India.
b) Ladakh will also go to India.
c) Gilgit, Baltistan will be retained in Pakistan.
d) Aksichin will continue to be held by china.
e) At maximum, few districts of valley, 2-3 districts from Jammu and AJK will be what can emerge as an independent Kashmir.
f) Land locked on all sides, it will be nothing more than, Nepal, Bhutan or Bangladesh and totally dependent on its neighbor’s.

Deduction-5: Geo-political limits of Independent Kashmir will not be one as we see it today on the world maps. It will be a small region slightly bigger than valley.

What does current geo political scenario teach us?
a) Countries like Bhutan and Nepal are not fully sovereign but pseudo sovereign.
b) Even nuclear armed countries like Pakistan duck to American pressure.
c) Even wealthiest Arab countries are not truly independent; they in spite of wishing could not help stop butchering of Gazan people, living in their own backyard.
d) Economic requirements supersede, even over the ideal of sovereignty.

Deduction-6: India’s ouster guaranties end to widespread confrontation with India, but it does not guaranty absolute sovereignty.

Apprehensions (If all of us support independent state, what kind of political scenario can emerge)?
a) In the process of resolution, nationalism will be the yard stick dominating Islamic values.
b) Sentiment of Kashmiri nationalism will strengthen in AJK, Gilgat and Baltistan.
c) Apart from India, Pakistan will fear losing territory and thus its interests in AJK, Gilgat and Baltistan.
d) Pakistani nationalistic sentiment can be in direct confrontation with Kashmiri nationalistic sentiment.
e) Pakistan will not only stop supporting us, but can create hurdles in Kashmir resolution.
f) India will attempt luring pro-independence camp, as call for standalone independence, opens a window of opportunity (a ray of hope) for Indian think-tank, to get hold of Kashmir through internal negotiations. I am not pointing my finger towards commitment of any pro independence leader, neither do I doubt. But this is the perception that governs Indian psychology while dealing with pro-independence camp.
g) We along with People in AJK, Gilgat and Baltistan will feel alienated from both sides.
h) Every progressing step towards Independent Kashmir will push Kashmir, more towards looking like Kurdistan than as Palestine.
i) Freedom struggle with its momentum increased will have more chances to die a spontaneous death.
j) Ultimately Indian stand and its occupation in Indian held Kashmir will be strengthened.

Deduction-7:At the outset, inclination shown by Indian strategists towards the concept of “Independence” is insincere and deceitful. When option of independence didn’t exist even in the UN Resolutions, in six decade old history of Kashmir, wasn’t it our mindset, engineered or hacked from being pro-Pakistanis to pro-independence?
What should be our strategy?
A good strategy can be drawn by considering all the above factors (Deductions 1 to 7) simultaneously. Let us analyze further and try to develop it, by rigorously questioning ourselves.
What should be our strategic objective to accomplish our mission? And as a matter of fact, what are the required resources to carry forward any struggle? What to target and what should be the target?
A deep and careful study of these questions, will lead us to a conclusion that the primary resource required is a favorable human being. Not his physical being, but his opinion, his view, his stand point and his ideology. Human beings are essential and most important resource in the kind of struggle we are in. Let us assume all Kashmir’s want freedom; this implies that we have with us a maximum of 10 million human resources. It is huge, but nothing in comparison to Indian human resource, which is of the order of 1000million. Ratio is of the order of (1:100) and this ratio again suggests negligible and poor success through our indigenous efforts. If we are able to motivate, say 50-60% people from Indian populace, we will get independence the next day. But what is the achievability index of getting Indian masses on our side?
How should we multiply our human resources? How can we generate mass opinion in our favour? How to make our human resource of 10million, become 20million, 40million, 60million and so on.

Our potential strengths (If all of us support merger with Pakistan, what will it reflect on the ground?)
a) In the process of resolution, Islam will be the yard stick dominating nationalistic values.
b) Euphoric sense of Islamic brotherhood will develop not only in Pakistan and Kashmir, but in the entire Muslim world.
c) On behalf of religious sentiment of 18 crore Muslim-Pakistanis, its Government can be employed in colliding vigorously with India on all possible fronts.
d) Pro-Pakistan administration of AJK, Gilgat and Baltistan will augment supporting merger with Pakistan.
e) Kashmir will dominate Pak-politics.
f) Pakistan’s strategic importance in Muslim world can help equate Kashmir with Palestine.
g) UN Resolutions, where there are only two options (Choosing between India and Pakistan) will redeem legitimacy.
h) India will fail to create a wedge in between Kashmiri’s and Pakistanis, which will bolster our efforts and may hurl India on to the back foot.

Conclusion:
Past 64 years have taught us that Indian civil society (including Muslims living in there) on account of events that have occurred, ever since the partition of the Indian-subcontinent will not concede to our demands. So, if it is not Indian masses, why cannot we divert our attention and target Pakistani public! Why cannot we concentrate winning 180 million friendly Pakistani Muslims? Winning them is winning Pakistani government. Winning Pakistani government is winning Saudi Arabia. Winning Saudi Arabia is winning entire Muslim world. Two billion Muslims are at our disposal, why do we ignore them, their potential, their view and their stand point.
If, in the capacity of a Muslim, Muslim Kashmiris’ fail to win favor of our own Muslim brethren, how and why should we expect others to favor us? And
a) How justified is it to focus on wining those, where winning potential is less.(Indian masses, UN, US, West)
b) How justified is it to ignore those, where our winning potential is more.(Pakistani public, Arabs, World Muslims)
We can look around the world, and ask ourselves this question, which nation, which area, which population is easy to win. We should assess, estimate and exert to have their opinion in our favor, so that our basic required resource multiplies.
In my humble opinion, this attitude is need of an hour, and it is a step forward towards shaping the strategy of our struggle. For independence, UN or US is not going to help us, but we have to look for help from within ourselves, within Muslim Ummaha. Local/Region centric strategies adopted by leaders, whether in Kashmir, Palestine, Pakistan or middle-east have failed to generate solution to miseries, globally faced by Muslims. We must understand that Indigenous struggle can be success only and only, if India turns out to be generous, but should we wait for it to turn generous or devise plans to move ahead?
My sincere suggestion is to win an easy target of 180-200 million Pakistani Muslims. We can propose autonomy! Yes Autonomy! But this time, within the domain of Pakistan. Attracting them, making use of their available potential and playing the great game, is need of an hour. It is not just heart & emotion, but ruthless and cruel mind and brains we need to work with. When we raise a slogan, Aaaar say lengay, Paaar say lengay. we are not winning anything but losing 180-200 million potential Pakistani helpers, A precious Resource!

PAKISTANOPHOBIA AND INDIAN MORALITY

Pakistanophobia is a habit, or I must say a disease which is taking a heavy toll on Indian mindset. Every day there are discussions on Indian TV channels and lengthy articles are written by Indian 'intellectuals' in newspapers about Pakistan. This every day dose of anti - Pakistan vitriol on National media has hypnotized Indian minds. Intellectuals like Parthasarthy, GC Singh and Swappan Dasgupta are always seen repeating their gospels of Pakistan bashing on the live Indian television shows. This everyday 'Pakistan is evil" brain wash on Indian media has made common Indians so arrogant that they are not ready to listen to any other argument other than the one which has been implanted into their brains. Things like a lone Indian hero beating and killing thousands of Pakistani villains bare handedly in fights in Bollywood films make ordinary Indian viewers feel kicked up high with the narcotic injection of imaginary patriotism. A solitary Indian soldier with a single Sten Gun in his hands is often seen killing battalions after battalions of Pakistani soldiers in viewer cheering scenes. This has resulted in the loss of logic and reasoning among the common Indian masses. Most of them think Pakistan is a country made up of wax. They often dream about the Indian war against Pakistan and want to see that wax melting with their own eyes. They think that this wax melting dream is not coming true because Indian nation is so high in morality that it would never attack Pakistan unilaterally. They are even made to believe in this high morality double dose and are made to feel proud about this at the same time. Hypnotized minds do not accept the reality and accept everything which is thrown at them by Indian masala media and its paid political analysts. Even visits by foreign dignitaries are judged by their anti - Pakistan rants. Barack Obama's recent visit to India was considered as a 'big failure' because he did not condemn or criticize Pakistan in any of his speeches in India while as Nicholas Sarkozy's visit was considered a 'big success' by Indian thinkers because he condemned Pakistan during his press conference there. Words of Pakistan bashing are perhaps sweet music to Indian ears.

Often this "Pakistan is evil" deliberations are heard even in non - political get togethers . I recently happened to be in one such get together where white collared anti - Pakistani guests were in majority and were ruling the roost without any disturbance. I am not using the word Indian patriots here, instead I am emphasizing on the word 'anti - Pakistan Indians' as I believe that a true Indian patriot can never be an anti - Pakistani. Anti - Pakistan India has always been on the toes and shall remain on her toes, always preparing for the war, in future as well. This will not allow both of these neighbors to breathe freely without any fear of each other. This is altogether a different subject, so I am coming back to the main topic.

They were talking to each other and helping each other to hate Pakistan more and more. As I was stuck in that rare and unpleasant company of indoctrinated white collared zombies, I had to behave a bit subdued in the gang as I was an unwelcomed minority in the gathering of clowns who were suffering from a rarest forms of delusion of grandeur. Their focus was on Pakistan and that too the evil part of Pakistan. I however could not escape the clutches of the argument . One of my old acquaintances whom I unfortunately met there incidently after a gap of 15 years initiated the discourse along with his other friends. Considering me as the one among the persons of his ilk, he started with this, " Pakistan is in mess". I replied, "Yea, of course". He then added, " I pity the people of that country. There is so much of violence, corruption, inflation and mismanagement in that land. Their President is called Mr. 10 % and he takes commissions on everything. Their army is corrupt, their bureaucrats, their sportsmen every one is corrupt. Their country is falling apart because of this." After he lowered his pitch of voice, I got a chance to reply. I said, "Yes, but what about India ? Is not corruption more rampant in India than in Pakistan. Thousands of billions of Indian Rupees are being siphoned off every now and then by India's top most elite. Kalmadi Commonwealth, Raja 2G, Chavan Adarsh, Modi IPL and Kargil coffins are most talked about scams everyday one after other in a single news bulletin". He seemed to be a bit annoyed by my reply. He started to raise his pitch of voice again and said, " O ! Ho, who says there is no corruption in India. But India is such a big economy that this corruption is hardly making any impact on us but corruption in Pakistan is eating up that country." I to keep his delusionary point of view intact and not to hurt his fake sensibilities replied, "OK, I understood" though I replied back to him sarcastically, I think he was drunk with the hatred of Pakistan to such a level that he did not understand my sarcasm. He continued further.

"And see the inflation there. Everything is so expensive there. Food stuff, medicines, petrol, gas, electricity and everything which matters is expensive . Common people there are finding it too difficult to make their two ends meet." I had just earlier in the day read about the onions of India and suicides by farmers due to poverty in one of their poorest states. This time I preferred to keep quite as I knew that the man I am talking to is filthy rich and how come he experience the Inflation on his pocket as everything which he buys seems so extremely cheap to him in comparison to his fat income. He was talking about the inflation in Pakistan because of his predominantly programmed mind, otherwise things like inflation and poverty would hardly find a place in his brain box. Then he went further ahead, " Pakistan is home to extremism. Jamait e Islami, Jamaat u Dawaa, LeT, Taliban and Alqaida are controlling that country. Suicide bombings, target killings and gun running is order of the day in that country". I could not stay quiet this time. So I replied, " What about RSS, Shiv Sena, Bajrang Dal and VHP. Are they not terrorising people. What about Babri Masjid demolition, Gujrat pogrom, Malegoan blasts, Mumbai roits. What about Raj Thakerey and his bunch of thugs. What about injustices against minorities and dalits. What about burning alive of Christain missionaries and raping of Christain nuns by Hindu zealots, What about Maoism, Naxalism and Nort Eastern insurgencies. Dont you think that India is bound together anly because of a huge army and ruthless as well as faceless paramilitary and above all abject poverty of common masses. Minus army and paramilitary, India will not sustain for a day." This outburst of mine trigerred a hysterical reaction from them. They said, " You are brain washed anti - Indian bigot. You cannot digest Indian greatness". I said, " Did I say something wrong or is it that I did not utter anything against Pakistan which made you to feel that I am an anti - Indian. Your parameter of patriotism is inversely proportional to the hate against Pakistan. Let me tell you I am not an Indian but a Kashmiri and let me add more, I do not care whether India is great or not. To me India is an occupier of my nation and that is it." He in his hysteria cried at me and subsquently was supported by others in the group all in a one go, " Pakistan is Khatam (Pakistan has come to an end), It is in tatters and you are still banking upon that failed nation, come out of this illusion. 'Pakistan is Khattam', accept this". I replied, "Pakistan is Khattam, OK, I accept for your sake. But my accepting this will not make that country to vanish . It is your wishful thinking. I first time heard this sentence 'Pakistan is Khattam' in 1978 when Bhutto was hanged, then in 1988 when Gen Zia died and since then I am hearing this every now and then. But to my surprise and to your dismay, Pakistan is still there. It has become a nuclear power instead of vanishing into the wilderness. It has become an indespensible power for the stability of South Asia. How can you say it is at the verge of vanishing. Is it some ship which will drown into the ocean? It is a country with more than 150 million people living in it. It cannot get dissolved into the thin air." One of them said, " It will not drown in the ocean but will disintegrate into smaller countries". This will be the "End of Pakistan". I replied, "By the way, my father too had heard this sentence that 'Pakistan is finished' in 1971 at the time of creation of Bangladesh , but now I can see two Pakistans neighboring you. One in the East and other in the West. You wishful thinking cannot give you a tangible happiness. This type of state of mind is going to shatter your mental balance. Better wake up sooner the better." Since things were hotting up there and I did not want to invite the blind wrath of others in that get together on me, I simply asked my acquaintance to reply to some of my arguments through the email. I promised him that if he gives a convincing reply to my arguments, I will also join him in , 'Hate Pakistan campaign'. So I sent him the following mail. I wrote.

Dear Friend,

Please read this:

TYPICAL INDIAN SELF-ADULATION AND 'WE ARE GREAT' ARGUMENT:

Did we just see Portuguese from Europe occupy our land when there was a clear cut case that they do not belong to the subcontinent. Did we not support the Mukti Bahini when Millions of Bengalis were being slaughtered by Pak army. Did we not liberate Hyderabad when the Razakars of the Nawab were slaughtering the Hindus and trying to declare an Islamic state out of a Hindu Majority kingdom?

TRUE INDIAN REALITY:

(1) Supporting and arming a militant group BEFORE the East Pakistan conflict that had become violent is acceptable.

(2) However, Pakistan's support of internationally disputed Kashmir even AFTER Indian army's countless atrocities on Kashmiris, is an unforgivable sin.

(3) The Muslim Nizam's declaration of an Islamic state over its majority Hindu subjects was so abhorrent that Hyderabad was invaded by India.

(4) So why were these heroics not extended to the majority Muslim Kashmiris and their movement for self-determination?

(5) Instead, the Hindu Mahraja's wishes were implemented irrespective of the rebellious majority. A series of legalities were produced that were ultimately denied in all international forums. As a result, Kashmir is still disputed territory according to 150+ countries.

(6) On the other hand, where were the violent Portuguese Razakars? No legal documentation required? No conditional composite dialogues dragging for 60 years? Are the army men from South India not as alien to Kashmir as 5th generation Portuguese are to Goans?

What happened to India's litigious stand and noble preference for diplomacy?

(7) Finally, Where were the Razakars in Junagadh?

Why was the Nawab's accession to Pakistan not honored?

What happened to India's self-declared supreme morality and even-handedness?

Who made India (itself an amalgamataion of nations consolidated by the British and conquered by the Muslims) the arbitrator of South Asia's destiny?

Of course it is us biased, madrassah-educated Muslims that are the aggressors.

And all the morality in the world is India's monopoly. This is your morality:

* India swallowed Junagarh on the basis of Hindu majority against the wishes of the Nawab

* India swallowed Hyderabad on the basis of Hindu majority against the wishes of the Nizam

* India conveniently swallowed Kashmir on the basis of the Hindu Maharaja ‘wishes’ irrespective of the Muslim majority’s wishes

* India swallowed the princely state of Bantva-Manavadar and it 26 Muslim villages.

* India overran Goan 4,000 Portugese outpost with 30,000 soldiers

* India annexed Sikkim

* India rampaged through the sacred Sikh Golden temple and Harminder Sahib of Amritsar with Russian made tanks, murdered Sikh minorty and humiliated its followers

* India's 'secular' government watched while Hindu terrorists desecrated and destroyed Babri Mosque

* India committed a state-sponsored pogrom in Gujrat murdering 3000+ Muslims including Ehsan Jafri ( a Muslim Ex- Member of Indian Parliament) -- arms chopped off and then lit on fire. Hindu mobs cut opened the wombs of pregnant Muslim women, took out the fetuses and hoisted them on Hindu trishuls.

* India sent her military to Sri Lanka and massacred both the Sinhalese and the Tamils in Velvettiturai and Trincomalee and named its contingent as IPKF (Indian Peace Keeping Force)

* India armed and supported Mukhti Bahini in East Pakistan.

* India has always supported “Baluchistan Liberation Army” and related terror outfits to destabilize Pakistan.

* India invaded peaceful Siachen Glacier

* India started the South Asian nuclear arms race

* India swallowed Minicoy Islands

* India current concerns for Afghanistan are so genuine that it supported the illegal, immoral and brutal Soviet invasion. The entire free world protested while the India 'non-aligned' 'democracy' supported the wholesale murder of 2 million Afghans.

* India supported the Northern Alliance against the Pashtuns majority but condemns Pakistan for interference

* India started the nuclear provocation by testing nuclear weapons on Pakistan’s border

* India has slaughtered 130,000 innocent civilians in Kashmir

* India financed anti-Pakistan Northern Alliance

* India continues to stall resolutions with Bangladesh over river boundaries, hundreds of enclaves.

* India border forces have killed hundreds of Bangladeshi border guards.

* India continues to fence the disputed borders with Bangladesh regardless of the Bangladeshi protests.

* India maintains contested boundary sections with Nepal including 400 sq. km over the Kalapani River.

* India continues to stall negotiations on disputed territory in Sir Creek with Pakistan

* India continues to support the Dalai Lama to instigate the Chinese

* India has had a war with China and make bellicose statements about “cold start” wars with both China and Pakistan

* India respected the McMahon line with China but disagreed with the Durand Line with Pakistan

* India maintains an army 0f 700,000 soldiers 5 for each civilian in the Kashmiri valley.

* India arrested the PRIME MINISTER of Kashmir in 1953

* India abolished Kashmir’s 'Sadre-Riyasat'.

* India rejected UN proposals to keep 16000 troops until plebiscite is held.

* Indian forces have raped 9900 women in Kashmir

* India imposed an economic blockade on land-locked Nepal in 1989

* India has encroached on Nepali land on multiple occassions

* India overtly and covertly supported the insurgency against the state by LTTE, a nationalist Tamil group in the northern Jaffna region of this small island country of Sri Lanka, which kept it politically and economically destabilized for decades

* India interferes in Nepal's internal affairs much to the latter’s discontent

* India murders millions of innocent, helpless female infants

* India suppresses a 150 million of its OWN citizens with the world most vicious form of discrimination: casteism

DOWN WITH POWERPLAY, KASHMIR CALLS FOR ACTION!

Enough is enough; Kashmiris want their right to self determination
By : Ayesha Villalobos
It is sufficient to mention that Kashmir’s protest against India’s atrocities for self-determination  is timely and long overdue, while it
is complex to locate the origins of Kashmir in those events from the time of the Raj and how it came into existence and how Kashmir were transformed by these events of the late 19th century . From that event emanated a series of bloody era, perpetual uncertainty and suffering among the people of Kashmir. India who occupied the centre was in a privilege position vis-a-vis the source of all power and authority, dominated the social and economic life of the inhabitants. They have power over the whole scenario, denying the meaningfulness of the human existence. It has to be understood that the present Kashmir were a scene of gloominess realm rather than a paradise, an India’s manipulation for its own purpose.
As the people of Kashmir celebrates 5th February 2011, as Solidarity day citizen of Kashmir have made the obvious, the challenges of the present are intertwined with history, the relationship of the past to our times, a time of serious economic crisis, bloodbath, human rights violations, making the call for heroism and patriotism, the merging of the past and its significance to present conditions ever more undeniable.
I have never felt so oblige, to write an essay with a feeling that something is not fairly right in the current situation , I opted to write not on a chronological approach which various historical research  usually undertake, rather I will present the reader the Kashmir that reflected my engagement with the oppress youth from Indian Held Kashmir as it happened and how these events and  the personalities associated with them have animated intellectual life and politics, I will raise the peasant, mothers, fathers, children and adult, Road workers, farmers and martyrs to the dignity of history. I will shun all exegesis of the Law, I will depict them as real people who feel the pain and sadness, and the martyrs as real people not Angels because angels cannot be depicted because they are unseen. I will show pictures and landscapes of Kashmir, those woods, the rivers, set out glimpse at them and you can only judge how marvellous, breathtaking, mesmerising the Valley that is also known as the paradise on Earth.  But weeping, wailing, torment, mourning, miseries and death marked the victory and cursed of material concerns, material progress, material values, the ugliness, and the lower classes as such only are repugnant to Indian society amidst the socio-political chaos. The art of democracy, permeated by deliberate brand of brutalistic tyranny current on the ground scenario of Kashmir.
The landscape now are saturated with a feeling of fecundity, the riverbank are seen languid, dreamy, semi-vacant state that precedes sleep, weigh down by some somnolence and mourning as if about to be absorbed by the soil. Evoking the pessimism of a man’s fallen –state. A feeling as profound as to preclude all faith in social, political and economic progress and ordained to regard all temporal leaders and theories and organizations especially government as irrelevant at best and lethally tragic at worst, offering a vision of the things that torment them- the heart of darkness. The present Kashmir is experiencing a period when all allusions had been abandoned and the air was change by the tumult of human annihilation, ethnic cleansing and brutality. Dis-orientation, alienation, fragmentation, despair, these are for the people – the by-products of sweeping attempt at “might makes right “ .The emotions on people’s faces could be felt, by even, that of someone with a tormented mind.
Kashmir a body composed of other and smaller bodies, separated and in opposition to one another which oppress and despise each other and are in continuous state of war. The degree of neglect and cruelty on obvious facts. There is no coherent strategic lighting; road systems are almost totally undeveloped. Rutted jumpy roads slowed down travellers. This lack of basic services and protections drowned people deep into despair. There was no systematic attempt at education by the government, no encouragement of agricultural reforms and few innovations in industrial methods. India’s intervention in the area was largely aimed at protecting their existing privileges not at reform and welfare of its citizen. Whatever prosperity existed was concentrated solely on imposing brutality and destruction. Poverty was dire and strife continues the quality of land none too bountiful grew worse with each passing day.
Yet despite, all the aggressiveness fidelity some are just attracted to silence, which seems caught in the lull between distant beats of heart, slowed down by deep slumber in the dark – the deepest dark of all –death. Some just “live off life” while some “live off death” standing, pretending to be less aware. But they are all bonded by resistance against the obligation to signify to anything other than their own presence, as if they are swallowed up by the muteness of hopelessness in the presence of cruelty that rules and destroy them, the crushing load of heartaches, and the burden of moral and social miseries. The distrust and resistance to their sad world. But the enigmas of human will, the sheer physical and emotional drive, the intensity to break loss from the shackles, the depth of pain at the glance of death.
For the people of the valley what matters more to them, a landscape of the Earth is the prime depository and the source of nature’s inexhaustible and indivisible energy. All physical manifestations of the same power of life, and it should be lived, with the same majestic breadth.
The people have to contend with a rebellious attitude of the atrocities and brutality. Islam is more than a religion in Kashmir it is the major force in society. Indeed the only force most people recognized. Islam ideally has provided the social organization and intellectual drive that motivates the citizenry. People are victims of top-heavy beurouecracies and political terrorism, suppression, of vital information, imposition of curfews everywhere. Indian authorities rendered it socially impotent and indeed blind to the misery of the people. In short Kashmir economic status is stagnant, if not decadent social organism. It is apt to surmise that India wasted her energies and resources in a fruitless but bloody attempt to become a regional hegemony, to maintain possession of Indian Held Kashmir which only productive for India’s induced cruelty to throw away on the preposterous dream of holding on Kashmir. Hopes are becoming bleak each passing day as the inner lives of its inhabitants are in constant peril. The paradise has turned into an emptiness and low-lines of featureless horizons.
If witches, demons and their relatives indeed really exist, they take shape in the Indian forces of unreasoning madness, stupidity, biases and prejudices that threaten the order of the sensible rational world employing themselves immeasurable chaos to feed their lustful desire of power thereby, coming into a pact with the devil. But finally, young people are aggressive and resolute in keeping the spirit of freedom struggle alive, an energetic class of citizen that contribute a lot in maintaining the revolutionary yeast to the social brew. Their fervent sense of humanity and their passion for reason revealed the concern they felt for their land and their fellowmen. The upsurge of the struggle, present the appearance of a life’s density, the density that fuels to the brim and offers them a solid impenetrable front.
Nothing strikes the Kashmiri psyche stronger than the idea of resistance, which other might consider it , as stupid and insensible but to the people of the valley these are the outcome of their desire to fight India’s evil design whose occupation is slaughter, whose doctrine is hatred and whose treaty is obscurity. Change is imminent, the road to freedom is laden with risks, but how one can live with the sad fact that many are suffering, their lamentations were loud it reverberates towards heaven, young and old are maltreated like criminals if not like animals. They prefer to face death to offer their life in order to liberate so many of their countrymen from this carnage, that they have the moral responsibilities that the current plight, the future and freedom vibrates in their senses to bring about change and redemption in their homeland, to end the sorrows, the melancholy, indefinable loneliness that strangle the soul, deep misery, horrible nightmares, and the agony of death.
They believe that He who does not struggle against oppression in this world is unworthy to savour the taste of freedom, that the provenance of evil should be annihilated and that the freedom struggle must be founded through mans collective capability grounded in the ideology of creating a responsible society. Heroism is not the concern, but the conditions that compel, while there are forces that are perplex, heightened and twisting the present chaos toward their self –serving interests , the majority of Kashmiris are resolute in their collective commitment , and that is to sacrifice for the common good .
Kashmiris are under great emotional, physical and psychological turmoil got caught in this political quagmire of bloody ”power play “ where they have to make an agonizing and inevitable decision , to resists , is a struggle for freedom , freedom against the yoke of oppression who damaged their culture and have afflicted  them with discomfort .Bravery and cowardice are two different things, also what is valiant and what is not, to welcome death that others may live is the noblest end, but for one who chooses to remain silent amidst the cruelty so that their loved ones may live could be dignified  too , but what would transpire in the end ? A far worse suffering. They are calling for actions, for liberation to prevent themselves to be cast down further under the dust of this genocide. To the Kashmiris their homeland remains their common cause and that in the end, reality being permanent, is greater than ambiguity or fiction, which can disappear in a flash. Progress will outshine beauty, awareness will surpass wonder, and cyberspace will modify historic calculations , even laughter may be “ packed in a sachet” , spiritual experience can be found in a pharmacy in the form of “ecstasy “ capsule , saintly scenery inside the hotel lobby and human memory is at the mercy of computer search engines . Would the Valley of Kashmir become only a memory? The Paradise on earth a thing of the past?  Would the happiness, laughter’s, sorrows and melancholia of the Kashmiris become obsolete and buried in oblivion?
Wave of protest from the Valley reverberated internationally inspired by various freedom movements in this diabolical times, cases of extra-judicial killings are ever increasing but “defeat” is not the word, but Hope, Freedom, Victory will be like a burning gleam of sunlight that will penetrate the lifeless crack of dawn as a signal of freedom struggle towards freedom and not sorrow. Kashmiris are people who loathe life that is devoid of freedom; they possess a character of the brave which prompted them to organize not for defeat but for struggle even for bloodbath, as a defender of their freedom. An irresistible force is now equipped to collide against the aggressor with a determined defence.

Indian held kashmir is an open prison

Kashmir is the oldest and most intractable disputes in the world. Forcible occupation of two-third Kashmir by Indian forces in 1947 against the wishes of Kashmiris impelled freedom fighters and Pak troops to get Kashmir freed from its stranglehold. When India saw that it was on the verge of losing the battle, it sought intervention of United Nations. United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Resolution of 21 April 1948 clearly states that the question of accession of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) to India or Pakistan should be decided through the democratic method of a free and impartial plebiscite. Subsequent UNSC Resolutions reiterated the same stand.
United Nations Commission for India and Pakistan (UNCIP) Resolutions of 3 August 1948 and 5 January 1949 reinforced UNSC Resolutions. However, despite Nehru’s repeated pledges that right of self determination will be given to the people of Kashmir, Indian leaders have mulishly held on to their uncompromising stance that Kashmir is an integral part of India. In defiance of UN Resolutions, they sing this song ad nauseam ignoring the fact that Kashmir is an internationally recognized disputed territory and Kashmiris hate them and long to join Pakistan. They get highly disturbed when Pakistan or any other country reminds them of this hard reality. They are fuming ever since China has started treating Indian officials serving in disputed territory accordingly.
After 2008 manipulated state elections in J&K, Indian leaders had proudly claimed that majority of Kashmiris were least interested in violence and had accepted Kashmir as part of Indian Union. They declared that armed insurgency had for the most part been successfully crushed, cross border movement from Pakistan effectively blocked and Kashmir was no more an issue. Drums are beaten by Indian leaders after every stage-managed election held under shadow of guns and boycotted by majority that a popular mandate has been won from people of Kashmir. Indians forget that neither military force had ever quelled popular movements nor military occupation justified. Who doesn’t know that Indian intelligence agencies have had a big role in shaping phony political parties and politicians having no roots in the masses, holding fraudulent elections and installing puppet regimes detested by the people?
No sooner these tall claims were made the whole Kashmir valley resounded with chants of ‘Azadi’, following Amarnath Shrine Board dispute in summer of 2008 which coalesced into a massive nonviolent uprising. Tens of thousands of unarmed protestors from all walks of life with placards in their hands defied gun totting security forces and marched through the streets of Srinagar protesting against state atrocities and injustices. Instead of redressing their grievances, Indian forces fired indiscriminately at the crowds. Volleys were fired not to scare and disperse the crowds but to kill innocent people since value of a Muslim Kashmiri is no better than a sewer rat. One of the reasons behind enacting Mumbai drama on 26/11 was to deflect the attention of the world from Kashmir and to exert pressure on Pakistan to stay out of it.
Another round of protest marches led by young people triggered in summer of 2009. This flare up coincided with unfolding of vicious propaganda war against Pakistan Army from August 2009 onwards. It was alleged that Pak Army had committed large-scale human rights violations in Swat. Stories about unearthing of mass graves, bodies found dumped along roadsides carrying marks of torture, corpses found with hands tied behind backs, and some corpses beheaded were splashed. Western media and RAW cultivated writers in Pakistan backed up the theme and series of articles appeared in local and international print media. Idea of this false projection was to cover up brutality of Indian forces against unarmed adolescent Kashmiris.
Making good use of their draconian laws they pickup slogan chanting young men on charges of arson, torture them in secret dens and later kill them in fake encounters. This gory practice of missing persons and fake encounters has been going on since triggering of armed resistance in late 1989. Since then, Indian forces have been killing Kashmiris like flies. Figure of missing persons run in thousands, while number of killed persons has overshot 100,000. Hardly any missing person has rejoined his family. Each fake encounter is presented as a clash with armed militants and those shooting the handcuffed prisoners are rewarded for bravery. Huge numbers of unmarked mass graves and marked graves stand witness to the atrocities of Indian security forces.
Besides killing every able bodied person or maiming them for life through torture, rape is being used as a weapon to break the will of the Kashmiris. Thousands of women and young girls have been raped. There have been numerous incidents of gang rape reported by Amnesty International (AI) and NGOs. AI has reported criminal activities of police and Indian security forces and has also reported that almost every house in Kashmir has been traumatized. They are living in a prison house and are being constantly punished on account of asking for right of self determination.
Their miseries are never ending since they can neither escape from the open prison nor their cries can be heard by the world. Biased US and Western media, think tanks and NGOs have remained mum over massive abuses of human rights occurring in Kashmir and in Gaza since perpetrators of crimes are non-Muslims and victims are Muslims. Instead of coming to the rescue of the bereaved, the US and western world are patronizing and encouraging India ruled by devilish Brahman rulers to continue with their reign of terror and cleanse the erstwhile paradise on earth now turned into hell from the presence of Muslims. India and Israel are two sides of the same coin and qualify to be declared terrorist states because of their callousness and barbarism but are treated as darlings by Christian world since Muslims are their common enemies.
Indian Police and paramilitary forces deal with the protesters under non-bailable Public Safety Act 1978 (PSA), which authorize them to arrest anyone on a flimsy charge, award two-year imprisonment through court and re-arrest the accused upon release. Even freedom of expression and right to protest peacefully is declared a crime. PSA is applied on minors as well. There were large numbers of cases where adults and minors were arrested and re-arrested several times under PSA. Apart from black law of PSA, Indian Army has license to kill without fear of accountability under Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA).  Security forces have never bothered about human rights violations since their gruesome acts are shielded by their political government, psychological warfare, USA and western world.
Indian forces are not differentiating between armed freedom fighters and unarmed protesters resorting to nonviolent means to seek freedom. They are applying black laws on teenagers with equal impunity. Massive crackdowns have been unleashed; shoot at sight orders given and Kashmiri leaders’ house arrested to stifle protests. Continuing with its past practice of blaming Pakistan whenever Kashmiris raised their voice against India’s atrocities, India promptly blamed Pakistan that it was instigating the teenagers. It alleged that cross border movement had increased.
The new round of protests started in the wake of killing of a student on 11 June. Stone-pelters have introduced a new phenomenon of resistance against which Indian military has no solution other than resorting to old method of brutal force. Soldiers and police are so fond of firing indiscriminately that they automatically aim at chest and above not realizing that protesters are teenagers carrying stones in their fists. Their hearts does not soften even when they see small boys as young as 8-10 years writhing in pain after getting hit by bullets. It is worth noting that in all the protests since mid 2008, not a single Indian policeman or soldier got killed at the hands of protesters. India is flabbergasted and doesn’t know how to justify its high-handed actions against youngsters and how to project them as terrorists. It can no more shed crocodile tears that it is victim of terrorism. Indian leaders have now started to whisper that stones are made in
Pakistan and provided b!
y ISI which are lethal and a threat to world security.
An increasing number of women moved by the extraordinary motivation of youngsters have joined them and are talking part in demonstrations enthusiastically. Hundreds of women and girls, some carrying sticks and stones, are seen regularly out in the streets chanting ‘we want freedom’, and ‘blood for blood’. Participation of women has added yet another dilemma for the police and paramilitary forces struggling to control protests.
Since 11 June 65 persons have been killed. Ignoring daily deaths of small boys aged between 8 and 17 years at the hands of Indian troops, Manmohan Singh tried to appease agitating Kashmiris by offering dialogue on autonomy and an economic package and rhetorically assuring them that there will be ‘zero tolerance’ for human rights violations. Mirwaiz rejected his offer and said that autonomy was not a solution to Kashmir issue. He said that no solution is acceptable to Kashmiris other than freedom. He demanded revocation of AFSPA, PSA, Disturbed Areas Act (DAA), and withdrawal of armed forces. Anger of the younger generation in Kashmir can no longer be doused through hypocritical rhetoric or even by pep talk of elder Kashmiri leaders. They are determined to break the walls of prison house and breathe freely.
Pakistan is equally determined to find a just solution to this chronic dispute. No amount of RAW sponsored pressures in the form of target killings in Karachi and Balochistan, suicide attacks in Lahore and elsewhere and building of dams on rivers would dilute affections of Pakistanis for Kashmiris. India must understand that if it is really worried about terrorism and is sincerely aspiring for peace as is being preached by Aman ki Asha preachers, without resolution of Kashmir dispute this objective is next to impossible.

Statements in support of Kashmiri self-determination
